Model Release Form
I use the Royal Photographic Society model release form. My current template is here.
Setting up and working with the MRF
Each separate shoot will be covered by an MRF. As I will hopefully work with clients on more than one occasion each MRF will be stored in a Google Drive folder shared with the client.
It is broken up into two stages:
- Before the shoot: covering basic agreement to shoot, compensation agreement and broader aim for the shoot.
- After the shoot: between stage 1 and 2 I will release the photos only to the named model or models in stage 1. This will allow the model to decide whether any photos meet the broader agreement in stage 1 as well as decide specific uses for each photos based on combinations of online or offline usage, websites, print or portfolio.
Editing and approving the photos
A single shoot could generates hundreds of photos. However it is also important to
- Download the photos to a Dropbox folder and share the link with the client. The link will be shared as read only. Photos are shared in their original RAW format plus exported JPGs once editing is complete.
- Begin removing all photos which are clearly not going to work due to a number of factors such as focus, shutter speed, lighting etc. If the client is happy for me to directly delete this will happen otherwise I will place those in a separate folder.
- I use a star system to begin rating the remaining photos. Based on how many the client is looking for this may narrow it down to a sufficient number of five star photos which will form the core of the final return to the client.
References
I can provide both character and modelling references on request.
The shoot itself
We can use either my own flat or a location of your choosing. If a venue needs to be hired we can discuss costing.
If the location is my flat I live in Witney, Oxfordshire. There is a large bathroom with a lockable door for changing.
I do not drink alcohol during my shoot and I ask that a model does not drink as well. If a model is clearly under the influence of alcohol or drugs I reserve the right to cancel the shoot at the door and will not cover any costs.
